Back again with another food review to chow down on and today I'm pleased to be ticking off another restaurant from my long list of desired eateries. On Saturday, Jack and I popped to Carnaby Street to try out the newly opened Dirty Bones on Kingly Court; an American restaurant and cocktail bar. Naturally, I couldn't wait to share my review with you all...
For those of you who have never been to the Kensington branch, Dirty Bones prides itself on premium hotdogs, hearty burgers and extravagant cocktails. Incorporating a blend of American, Asian and Mexican influences, it is a stunning neon-lit hideaway where you can get yourself the ultimate in comfort food dishes.
There wasn't too much of a queue at our time of arrival but luckily we got there just before peak. We were left at the table for quite a while despite trying to attract staff attention and they later told us that they could not take food orders until a set time (17:15 - although they never explained as to why). Pictured above - Jack opted for the Mac Daddy Burger; a 6oz house burger topped with pulled beef rib, mac & cheese and Dirty Bones BBQ sauce. Undeterred by its generous sizing and delightful presentation, it didn't very last long and I'm pretty sure it went down a treat. Jack also opted for a side of Chilli Fries and Deep Fried Mac & Cheese Balls, which as you can see, were rather spicy but delicious.
I ordered the Flat Iron Steak; a 30-day aged beef cut with Dirty Bones glaze. This was phenomenal. The glaze alone was outstanding and, served with skinny fries, made for the perfect Saturday treat. Again, wonderfully presented, the cut of meat was fantastic, fermented by the rosemary, and far better then I was expecting for the price. Served rare, it was perfectly tender and full of flavour. As you can imagine, I was pretty pleased with my choice and would certainly order this again in the future.
We figured we'd 'force ourselves' to have a dessert and so we ordered the Milk and Cookies to share. Served with a small glass of frozen, vanilla ice cream (made to look like an adorable glass of milk and straw) and a brownie cookie. The cookie brownie had almost a cakey like texture and was just right with the ice cream so creamy but light - the perfect size after that hearty meal.
Maybe due to our positioning in the restaurant or maybe due to it being newly opened, the service is nothing to write home about. We felt pretty deserted for most of our stay and, given the choice, I don't believe we would have tipped the staff who failed to crack so much as a smile. It did let down the atmosphere of the place and failed to give that amazing first impression I had hoped for. When we were served, it was just about acceptable but the grub and fun decor compensates for the poor service. Both mine and Jack's meals were excellent and we will certainly be back to sample in the delights once more. The pricing is your average for Carnaby Street at roughly £15-25 per person (depending on your drinks - a can of coke alone is £3). I would definitely recommend the place but would advice booking ahead or getting there before peak time as you might expect quite a queue. Better yet, you can order them straight to the office via deliveroo if you fancy a super lunch time treat.
Have you tried Dirty Bones yet? What's your favourite comfort food? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave them below and share your thoughts with me. Thanks to Dirty Bones for the amazing food,
Until next time foodies,

DeleteMmm I'm mega craving mac and cheese now and also steak and also a burger, damn it. Service sounds pretty crap but if it's new, it might just be teething issues. I hate when you really don't want to tip but also don't wanna look like a tight cow, lol.

Pretty Mad Things .. x o
Yeah it wasn't ideal but it wasn't awful either, we just kinda got left to it really but I think it was just cos it was a Saturday. Yeah I felt like they didn't deserve it but they included it anyway haha I spose you can't really not tip but in my opinion they should work for it x
DeleteThe food looks great! Too bad the service was mediocre. These days I try not to eat so much red meat. I was sick recently and I got Campbell Soup's Thai Rice and Chicken Soup, which is now my fave comfort food. I find broths and soups very comforting. So something like Vietnamese pho, Thai Tom Yum soup, and Miso soup fits the bill for me.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it didn't ruin the overall experience but it's nice to be able to say the service is good too. If it's really bad it can really stop me from going back. Oh really? Hope you're better now - I agree, a chilli ramen is great for a cold :)
DeleteOh wow this place looks delicious. I popped into Kingley Court recently just for a look but didn't eat in anywhere, I'll need to check this place out when I do decide to eat out as it looks right up my street!
