Beauty Review: Star Wars Covergirl Makeup Collection

Hello, hello! Today I'm very excited to be sharing with you the long-awaited Star Wars CoverGirl makeup collection. To celebrate the December release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, US drugstore cosmetic brand, CoverGirl, released their own special Star Wars makeup line. Here's a little sneak peek...

Finally something for the every-day fan girl. The limited edition collection is made up of six lipsticks, one regular mascara, one waterproof mascara and six nail polishes. Taking inspiration from both the Light and Dark Side, CoverGirl have come up with three lighter, metallic shades and three darker tones to give you the choice of good or evil with the tag line "Which side are you on?". Being in limited supply and being only made available in the US (although MaxFactor have now released 3 similar pieces) I decided to pick only my favourites from the selection so here are my choices...

Jedi Knights and Droids of the Light Side can choose from the following shades; A mystic Lilac (20) (which brings to mind Princess Amidala's purple gown in Phantom Menace or possibly Mace Windu's light sabre), A BB8 and C-3PO inspired Gold (40), and a Jedi robe Nude (70).

If you're a little on the Darkside, like myself, you can pick up a Stormtrooper Dark Purple (50), Dark apprentice or Darth Maul looking Red (30) or Chrome Captain in Silver (10).

Each shade is stunning yet some are a little tricky to apply. Being so oily, although great for moisture, they don't have that same creamy thickness which makes for easy application. I would strongly recommend using a liner for each of the darker shades to keep a clean edge, whilst a base is needed for the silver and lilac. I tested the life of these each morning and found that each one seemed to last until around 3 hours before needing to reapply, (which is pretty impressive) but less time so if you're eating or drinking. They kept my lips feeling moisturised for the majority of wear, they didn't leave my lips feeling dried out after I had removed it. Even after they have worn off, they leave a slight stain which, I think, still looks great.

Overall, at around £5 per lipstick (with the dollar conversion rate), these are what you would expect from a drugstore product but I think they're a super neat collection all the same. They honestly smell like the lipsticks I first used to use as a child; that kind of cherry scent you'd get in children's makeup sets but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I really love the packaging and think they've gone for some excellent choice of colours. My favourite has to be the Lilac and Dark Purple which are ideal for the upcoming Winter and also the Gold makes for a great, warm glow.

Finally, I picked myself up a CoverGirl Star Wars Light Side Super Sizer Waterproof Mascara in Very Black (825). A fun thing about these is that each mascara has 1 of 10 different Star Wars quotes to give you that geeky inspiration for the day. As you can see from mine, I got Number 1 which is "May the Force Be With You". I do think that they could of come up with some slightly more exciting packaging, perhaps light sabres or something but I do love the little quotes on each one. The brush itself is an odd one but it does define and fan each individual lash with only some clumping. Personally, I prefer my mascara to thicken as well as define but given that I wear fake lashes anyway, this certainly does the job. As it promises, this mascara was definitely waterproof and left no black marks or smudges under my eyes - perfect for battling watery eyes caused by those cold, winter winds. Again, this mascara is excellent value for money at only £4.95 (with conversion rate) and is also available in Dark Side, Very Black (800).

The collection did also feature nail polishes but I felt a little let down by the fact that these were simply (or appeared to be) colours already created by CoverGirl but renamed with the Star Wars logo printed on the lid. Though still some gorgeous colour choices, I decided that the lipsticks and mascara were just a little more worthy of purchasing instead. Overall, I'm so impressed with the collection and I think it's really refreshing to see the franchise collaborate with an everyday, drugstore priced brand.

So there you have it - my favourite picks from the CoverGirl Star Wars Makeup. What do you think of the range? What are your favourites from the collection? Thank you so so much to my amazing and beautiful friend Rose who kindly shipped this to me from NY since CoverGirl do not ship the UK. As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave your thoughts below! I'd also like to point out that I was very well behaved when it came to resisting the urge to bombard you all with Star Wars nerd lingo but instead held back for all your sakes.

Until next time, may the force be with you,

  9. Ah I love this collection! Love that the mascara has 1-10 different quotes on them, but yeah the packaging could be a little more adventurous! that said I know if I was in American, I would buy the lot! event though it's limited I hope Poundland get hold of them, as they always sell lots of Cover Girl and American goodies! However, might ask one of my American buddies to ship some :) The excitement is building for December! :)

    1. Do they really?? I could of saved so much money haha It's a limited edition collection though so not sure how much they'll be able to get hold of. That would be amazing though! Definitely, I'm super lucky that my friend lives in NY so she sent me it but even then it was so reasonable, £5 a lipstick is awesome! xx

    2. Yeah I think that is a good price! Fingers crossed for the Max Factor range over here! If they do a similar one, I think I really would buy 1 of each! Haha! Although the article said flash sale, so fastest fingers at the ready that day! My friend message me last night, and said she'll pick me up a few Cover Girl bits, as she flies to NYC tomorrow! how amazing is that?! I hope there some left now! :)

    4. I don't even think they're too "out there" either, as they're pretty much illamasqua colours. So I would be happy with anything, if she finds them! :) x

    1. Yeah I'm surprised by how little it's actually been covered! I think you really have to dig for the reviews but they're there somewhere haha. I think it's because CoverGirl don't ship to the UK that it's not really blown up over here but I wish more people knew about it, it's such a great collection x

  12. Love the packaging, and actually like the metallic look to some of the shades, although some are little too 'out there' for day to day wear, but a great product review <3

    1. You'd be surprised, some of them are actually pretty subtle - even the metallics. Obviously the dark purple is dark but it's great. Thanks hun x
