Foodie Review: Hawksmoor Seven Dials, Covent Garden

Back again with another foodie review to get your teeth into and today I'm sharing my experience at Hawksmoor Seven Dials in Covent Garden. Having been on my list of eateries to visit for a while, after payday we thought we'd try somewhere a little more special and so opted for a place that describes itself as "the best steak restaurant in the UK".

We got to the restaurant a little earlier than planned since we were already in London and so we thought we'd wait in the bar. With such an extensive list of premium cocktails, it was hard to choose just which to go for but I opted for a classic Pina Colada and Jack had his standard Manhattan. These guys certainly do not spare on the spirits and it was a lot stronger than I anticipated as I very rarely drink (if at all) but it was still pretty great.

It wasn't before long that our table was ready and so we were taken to the back of the restaurant for our dinner giving us a chance to get a full look at the place. Being in the West End, Hawksmoor boasts a high end, premium vibe but it also maintains a rustic yet stylish ambiance which makes for a wonderful setting to enjoy your meal no matter what the occasion.

The menu is certainly not meant for vegetarians (sorry to you veggies) and focusses itself on prime meat cuts, hearty starters and sides. To start, I went for the Roasted Scallops in White Port and Garlic (picture above). Being a big sea food fan also, scallops are an ideal starter for me and are not too filling so not to spoil your main. They did not disappoint - perfectly cooked, bursting with flavour from the subtle port and garlic and topped off with beautiful presentation.

For my main, I naturally had to go for a steak although the Sunday roast was tempting. It was pretty hard to choose just which one from such a range of cuts but I went for a sirloin whilst Jack chose a rib-eye -both cooked rare. In my opinion, if you're going to have a steak, the best way to enjoy it is bloody and these were cooked to perfection. Infused with some light seasoning, chargrilled on the outside and wonderfully pink on the inside, I'd honestly say this is one of the best steaks I've ever sampled. Myself and Jack also ordered a side of bĂ©arnaise sauce, baked mac'n'cheese and beef dripping fries which were absolutely amazing. Despite being a seemingly simple meal, it was prepared and cooked with such quality proving that when it comes to good food, less is more.

Having ordered so much food, it was certainly a struggle to finish but it was so worth it. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough and I'm intrigued now to try one of their other chains. As a much pricer option than we usually go for (our bill totalled nearly £150 for two courses each, drinks and sides), it was the perfect dinner choice for our anniversary. We decided to skip dessert as the choices weren't massively special compared to the main dishes but there are some excellent icecreams and British, home-cooking inspired choices in there too.

Overall, our experience of Hawksmoor was fantastic - good service, outstanding food and fantastic atmosphere makes for a fantastic evening out, especially for a special occasion. Have you ever visited a Hawksmoor restaurant? What are your favourite places to eat? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave them below.

Until next time fellow food lovers,
