Jack opted for the Parm Burger (pictured above) - a fried chicken burger made with parma ham and marinated mozzarella cheese, served in a brioche bun. I chose the Fried Chicken and Waffles which comes with a side of gluten free maple syrup. Despite being fried chicken and waffles, it was surprisingly light and not at all greasy leaving me pleasantly full but not stuffed. The chicken was a little dry but clearly fresh while the waffles are savoury, again a little dry but overall I enjoyed it. I think if I were to visit again I would opt for a burger instead as I felt the chicken was not quite as juicy as I had hoped for (perhaps due to being gluten free). Jack also ordered a side order of fries and these have a subtle but delicious curry seasoning. The fries alone were worth the visit.
We decided to skip dessert as it was getting pretty late (for a work night) but on our way out the door we were surprised with these giant doughnuts gifted to us by our waiter. Despite being gluten-free, these were huge, light and fluffy. Just look how chocolatey! Other options on the dessert menu included banana splits, doughnut of the day and doughnuts and ice cream.
The service was speedy and pleasant and overall, Jack's expectation totally lived up to the hype. I really enjoyed my food though I think if I went again I'd go for a burger instead as I'm not great with meat on a bone and the chicken needed a little added moisture. I loved the 70's inspired decor and the style of the place also, I'd certainly recommend it to any chicken fans. I terms of value for money, we definitely had our fill from our chosen dishes and the food is the average value you would expect from a Shoreditch based restaurant, each dish priced at around £9-12, ideal for a quick bite on an evening out or for a lunch treat.
Thanks to Bird for the free doughnuts and excellent service! What cool food places have you tried recently? Where are your favourite places to eat?

Yay! Definitely, you'll have to tell me what you think of it if you get to try xx
DeleteDespite being terrified of actual, living birds (quite a troublesome phobia living in London...!), this sounds brilliant - good value too for Shoreditch! Will have to add it to my ever-growing list of places to pop into! x
ReplyDeleteHaha really? Don't worry, no actual birds inside! Just fried and on a plate. You'll have to let me know what you think! x
DeleteKorean/American sounds like my kind of combo!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks delicious, and any place where they'll give you free donuts has to be a winner, right?!
What Raj Wants
Yeah I was kind of unsure when I saw the korean in there but it works so well, it gives it so much more flavour. I loved it! That was also a huge plus haha x
DeleteThat's really a great combination! Waffles and chicken are soul food. And I love Korean food, especially Korean BBQ! I hope you have a great week, Sophie!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gil, yeah it was excellent :)
DeleteBird looks like such a great place full of really awesome soul food! Will have to check this place out.

You're welcome lovely lady :) xx
DeleteOoh fried chicken the Korean way? Yes please! I love reading up on new places to check out and meal reviews, but I suppose one of the downfalls for most of these would be that I can't try them out in Australia :( Still, love to see new food places so I can get inspired to find something similar near me! :)

Aw that's a shame! Maybe the chain will make it's way over OR if you're ever in London you know where to go ;) xx
DeleteThis sounds really cool and I love the fusion of cultures. The idea of Korean/American fusion sounds unusual but the burger looks and sounds delicious and that donut(!). I'm sold! I tried a taco with Japanese influence a few weeks ago here in NYC which was so good x

I thought the same, it was so unusual but totally works and tastes great. Also - vegan free! Ooh sounds amazing, I'm always on the look out! xx
Deletei was just in london and went to the bars in shoreditch one night and loved it, which i got to explore it more!

I know! It seems like a crazy mix but it totally works and it was all so so good. Would definitely recommend the place x
DeleteThis place looks really rad! I was just thinking the other day that I really want to do more location and event posts. This post has inspired me to make sure I definitely do that!

Aw I'm always so pleased when I get a chance to do them. I think they always make for better photos and they get so many views compared to ones in my bedroom haha. Can't wait to see what you come up with hun! x
DeleteI took my burger club here this month and we were all very disappointed! I had the chicken waffle burger, I wouldnt recommend it. Glad you enjoyed it, I think I chose the wrong thing on the menu.
ReplyDeleteBurger club?? What's that? That sounds awesome! Oh really? That's such a shame - I think because it's gluten free, it doesn't have alot of the fats and juices that normally make it really juicy. I think if I went again I would definitely go for a burger instead x
DeleteI visited right after Christmas twice last year in order to do a review, and I liked the chicken and waffles, but I've had better chicken sandwiches.
