Well, just like that another year has come and gone. And what a year it's been. When I made what little resolutions I did back in January, I never imagined the shenanigans I'd get up to with my blog, my job and personal life. And so, what better way to to ring in the New Year with a look back at some of the highlights?
I got my dream job
I never thought I'd ever have the hope in hell but in April 2017 I managed to lock down my dream job. Whilst there have obviously been times when it didn't quite feel like a dream; getting to know a new company and new people, it's given me some amazing opportunities - including the chance to meet my favourite director of all time, Taika Waititi. My goal going forward, however, is to have more faith in myself.
I lost some weight
I know everyone says to "love yourself" but sometimes it's easier said than done. Whilst on a family holiday, I somehow managed to lose 8lbs in two weeks - but not on purpose. This little boost was just what I needed to give me the determination to carry on and feel better about the way I look. Almost 4 months on, I've managed to keep off just over a stone (again, not through trying) and feel better for it.
I met some amazing people
As I mentioned before, my job and blog has meant that I've met some truly remarkable people this year - both at premieres and various events. Just a few of my favourites include Adam Buxton, Taika Waititi, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and, my hero, Mark Kermode. But not all of them have been celebrities. Whilst I don't often attend 'blogger events', I forced myself out of my comfort zone a little bit more this year and met some awesome bloggers along the way. Naturally, I'm still my usual awkward selfie but I'm getting there. It's part of my charm.
I learnt a lot about myself
Back in October, I had a bit of a blip, shall we say? I unexpectedly (and temporarily) found myself moving house and with different priorities. It was no one's fault but I was certain of what I wanted and, in that moment, my situation didn't fit that expectation. However, a few months on and it's now slowly getting back on track. However, whilst it wasn't fun at the time, I learnt so much about myself. I got my confidence back and now I know what I want, I'm not settling for anything else. A task I've set for myself in 2018 is to say "no" more and to stop doing things because I feel I have to.
Mushy stuff aside, I should also take a moment to thank Simply Be for very kindly sending me this glitzy outfit to get me ready for New Years Eve. I just LOVE stars at the moment, not to mention stars made out of sequins. I think this little number makes for a great wardrobe edition, whether you're going to the pub or out-out come midnight. One thing I will add, however, is that it's worth getting this a size down as it came up rather large on me. If you want to check out Simply Be's partywear or this particular dress*, you can do so via their website.
Well, that's me done with another rant. What are you most proud of from 2017? Did you achieve all your New Years resolutions? As always, I love reading your comments so please do leave me lots of lovely ones down below. A huge thanks to everyone who has supported Popcorn & Glitter this year. It's really been amazing and I am eternally grateful for the opportunities I've had in 2017. Here's to 2018.
Until next time - Have a very happy New Year

You look stunning!
ReplyDeleteAlso what a fantastic year you've had, let's hope 2018 is an amazing one for you X
Thanks gorgeous! You will always be my outfit inspiration xxx
DeleteYou look amazing and you should be proud of everything you have achieved over the past year! Here is to an amazing 2018 for you xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks hun! You too - forever fangirling over your Instagram feed. Can't wait to see more in the New year xx
DeleteThat dress is gorgeous! I love SimplyBe stuff. You achieved so much in 2017 - I hope to be even half as successful in 2018!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks hun! Unfortunately it's a wee bit big for me but I really love the stars on it. You too, lovely! xx
DeleteAbout that October thing, I'm glad you had your friends in Bristol (I think their names are Vanessa and Ash - from what you describe, they sound like wonderful people) to encourage you! I know you have worked very hard to get to where you are and I wish you the best for the New Year :) Let's hope we can get through 2018 without too much difficulty.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope you have a great time in your travels for 2018. One piece of advice, though. Get some decent emergency medical insurance for any travel to the USA. I mentioned that my dad had some health problems that are properly diagnosed and treated now but he showed me his emergency room bill (paid by his insurance) from around the Thanksgiving holiday and it was almost $8K for a 6 hour stay.
Yeah they were a big help :) Me and Jack temporarily split up but we're back together and working things out so it's all good again. But it helped me reassess alot of the things that were a problem. Definitely - I hope things are better for you now too? Did you have a pleasant Christmas?
DeleteHa thanks, yes we have travel insurance so we'll be covered in the unlikely event of needing anything while we're there. I think we take our NHS for granted when you have things like that!
Oh I did have a pleasant Christmas and New Year's Eve, thank you :) You and Jack have a very nice photo on your twitter. I've always thought of the both of you as a very nice looking couple. And there's a very nice photo of Rosie the Cat as well.
DeleteI imagine that you have less time to do write-ups of your film reviews so I wonder if you might just upload your film reviews when you guest on the London Film Club. I notice some guest critics have put their stuff on youtube like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HErB5WfCTzo and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3axFzJaMN1Y
I'm not sure of all the permissions you have to get or whether anybody cares about permissions about putting things on youtube.
Like I saw that you really liked Lady Bird for example and attended a talk with Saoirse Ronan and Greta Gerwig and it would be nice to hear a review especially if you've already done it on tv. I thought the movie was very good, btw.
Aw thank you Gil. Glad you had a nice Christmas too.
DeleteYes unfortunately I don't get a lot of time to do the film review write ups anymore. I don't think I'd ever use the London Live reviews as I'm only on it once in a blue moon lately and they're only 3 minute run downs really. I also don't watch back any of my episodes but it's a nice idea.
Lady Bird isn't out in the UK until February I believe but I'm aiming to do a review of it by then too. And for Three Billboards as that film was amazing! Already a firm favourite for 2018.
Happy New Year Gil 😊
Congrats on all your achievements, meeting such fantastic people - what a dream!! Hope it keeps getting better next year, woo :D
ReplyDeleteAw thank you! You too - hope you have a great New Year :D xx
DeleteCongratulations on securing your dream job! It sounds like you are having an absolute blast. I hope you have a fab 2018 xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much hun! Congrats on all the amazing work you're doing for The Film Club also. I really hope I can join another chat again soon! xx
DeleteLove the glitzy star outfit! Congratulations on nailing such an awesome job, I hope you continue to achieve what you want to and meet new people (and celebrities!) this year :) Happy New Year!
