So to summarise then, that's a total of 39 feature films received nominations for this year's BAFTAs. Naturally there are some opinions surrounding a lack of female nominees, particularly around Greta Gerwig who should be a sure contender for Little Women; as well as Lulu Wang for The Farewell. It is fantastic, however, to see Jessie Buckley nominated for Wild Rose, as well as Awkwafina in the Rising Star category. Gender and diversity debates side, some highlights include:
11 nominations for Joker
10 nominations for The Irishman and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood
Nine nominations for 1917
Six nominations for Jojo Rabbit
Five nominations for Little Women, Marriage Story and The Two Popes
Four nominations for For Sama, Parasite and Rocketman
Three nominations for Bombshell, Judy, Le Mans ’66 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Two nominations for Bait
It's also worth mentioning that the BAFTA website has a disclaimer, stating that they have the right to make amends to any of the nominees so that could be interesting.
Well, that's it for my latest film update. The BAFTAs are usually a good indication of Oscar nominations and wins so I'm keen to see who takes home the gold. I can't wait to tick as many of these nominations off my viewing list so I can make my own fair assessments also. But tell me, who are you rooting for this awards season? What were some of your favourites from the list of nominees, or even who didn't make the cut? As always, I love reading your comments so please do share your thoughts with me below. If you haven't already, you can also check out my most anticipated films of 2020 here.
Until next time film fans,
